Until recently, taking RAW photos has typically only been possible with expensive cameras, mirrorless and dslr bodies.

RAW format or '.dng' provides a lossless format, which means a larger file size and higher quality image.

Many phones have had this ability for a while including the Samsung Galaxy S7, S8 and S9, however it has been hidden in camera settings.

Although natively it hasnt been available, with IOS 10 on iphone and ipad and use of a third party app- it is now possible.
